Interview with MooM + Playlist

“Right now after some quit years there is a new wave of kids in the punk scene.  A lot of new bands formed and there are many shows mainly in TEL AVIV and HAIFA.  Both cities have their D.I.Y spaces.”

While they’ve just released their killer third EP and toured Europe this summer (Fluff Fest…), we took time to ask few questions to this lovely crew of punks from Tel Aviv.

* How came the idea to start MooM ?
We all know each other from the punk scene for quite a long time. There were many unsuccessful attempts to form MooM in past time but eventually only the four souls with the truest dedication to bad taste and extreme music made it happen.

* What does « MooM » stand for ?
The closest translation to English will be Defect. For us it symbolized   the disadvantages of being born into this reality while being awake to its greed and corruption.

* How was the recording session for this EP ?
Recordings is a very organic and yet messy part of our activity.
We do all our recordings ourselves, usually in the same space that we rehearse. This gives the freedom to experiment our own sounds, on the other hand it leaves us very lazy towards deadlines.

We record everything live and on top of it we add a layer of guitar and vocals.

* What are your next tour plans ?
Making a tour plan haha But don’t be surprised if you see us through out Europe in summer-autumn of 2019.

* Do you have side-projects ?
We’ve  all been very active in countless bands in last 10 years. Right know Heshbon plays in ZAGA ZAGA and LUCY’S PUSSY historical punk band from the 90′. Ezra plays Bass in a surf band called THE ORIONS while he and gad play in a band called TURBO TORPEDO.  Sima sings in NOT ON TOUR and at her first steps in her HIP HOP career.

* How is the scene in Tel Aviv (shows, labels, bands…) ?
Right now after some quit years there is a new wave of kids in the punk scene.  A lot of new bands formed and there are many shows mainly in TEL AVIV and HAIFA.  Both cities have their D.I.Y spaces.

Bands you should check: LOS KIKES (HA’ YEHUDONIM). SVPREMACIST. JARADA. HAR. CYANIDE. AKRABUT. DIE KVAR. GHOST SPELL. AND MANY MORE

* Which bands do you like the most at the moment and people should listen to ?
Any styles. Some random stuff that runs on our playlist.

New EP still available on 7′ on our website & Bandcamp

Interview with Self Deconstruction

Interview with Self Deconstruction

“We express ourselves freely and unconventionally in grindcore format. […] I hope we can inspire Japanese grinders and scene will be more active in the future!”

You are playing a unique kind of grindcore that you called « freestyle grindcore », can you explain us what is it and what do you mean ?

Kuzuha(Gt): Simply speaking, it means playing songs freely, without any “stereotypes”- as you can see our appearances and guitar riffs. We express ourselves freely and unconventionally in grindcore format.

Do you have/had other bands?

Kuzuha: Sometimes I have a session with IRONFIST Tatsushima. My other bands are currently stopped.

Kubine(Vo): I did some guest vocal recently such as WARFUCK, and BUTCHER ABC but I only play in Self Deconstruction.

Jiro (Dr): I play in the other hardcore band called “BAUMKUCHEN” with the member of THINK AGAIN, NO EXCUSE and MONKEY QUARTET.

How is the grindcore scene in Tokyo?

Kuzuha: I consider the number of Japanese grindcore band is decreasing, because there is no new band and some bands are stopped or disbanded. However, Japanese gore grind scene is recently more active than grindcore scene, there are some new young bands.

I guess EARACHE-like grindcore bands in Japan are close to crust punk scene than grindcore scene.

Kubine: I think there are many good grindcore bands in Japan, but relatively unknown from overseas grindcore fans, because many bands don’t have Bandcamp page or no release for overseas, because of the language barrier.

And I also think the number of grind band is decreased. Sadly, many of my favorite grind bands are disbanded (such as Shikabane and Red Ran Amber). I hope we can inspire Japanese grinders and scene will be more active in the future!

Regarding your discography, what’s your next plans? We have heard that you will release a new CD, can you tell us more?

Kuzuha: Our next release will be Split LP with SPEED!!NOISE!!HELL!! (ex-CONGA FURY) by RSR (German label), and we will release the CD version too. We recorded new songs, old songs and cover song for this split.

We want to record and release EP next year. Now I always make songs for the EP.

Kubine: It’s not new recordings, but our latest album “WOUNDS” LP version will be released by F.O.A.D. Records and BREAK THE RECORDS (co-release) from OEF! Please buy it!

You are playing at the Obscene Extreme 2018, it will be your first time in Europe, right? Are you excited? Do you have some expectations?

Kuzuha: I am a worrier, so I am anxious than excited for OEF.
Of course, I want to enjoy myself, but the most important thing is playing songs properly during the show. It will be awesome if our show will be success!

Kubine: The most of audience have never see or don’t know ourselves, so I am definitely excited to see how the audience react during our show! Playing OEF is one of my dream. We will try our best!

Butcher ABC, Flagitious Idiosyncrazy In The Dilapidation at OEF, Speed!! Noise!! Hell!! & Birushanah at Fluff Fest… Japan is pretty hype this year, what do you think?

Kuzuha: I guess it’s good thing.
It is like open a lot of doors for Japanese extreme music scene, but it not necessarily means the number of Japanese grindcore fans will be increase Haha.

Kubine: I think so too. It is so cool many Japanese bands will tour overseas, and also many good overseas bands tour in Japan!
My friends, WORLD END MAN, COFFINS and END ALL will tour Europe soon too. Please check them out!

Which bands do you like the most at the moment and people should listen to?

Jiro: My favorite band is YxAxD from Nagano. They are so fast and awesome!

Kuzuha: There are many good bands in Japan, and I don’t know all the band in Japan….
So there is some bias maybe, but I must say current lineup of SYSTEMATIC DEATH is awesome.
My favorite bands in Japan are FIGHT IT OUT and SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY, and in overseas, CAVESTATE and CRYPTIC VOID.
CRASH SYNDROM and SHINDA SAIBOU NO KATAMARI are both great and new bands in Japanese underground scene.
Recently I always listen old band and Soul/Funk Stuff.

Kubine: Recently I listen Mike Patton stuff especially the Dillinger Escape Plan, Mr.Bungle and DEAD CROSS. It’s a little late, right? But I’ve never listen his stuff except for Dillinger until recently. His vocal is amazing and inspiring!
My favorite bands in Japanese underground scene are SHIKABANE, KNUCLEHEAD, SWARRM, ENDON, MOTIVELESS, ZAGIO EHVA DILEDJ, SYSTEMATIC DEATH, RED RAN AMBER, BUTCHER ABC, COFFINS, NOLA….and many many more!

Kaala introduce many good Japanese extreme bands so please check them out!

Interview with WHORESNATION

“We want to touch more people and in different scenes. People are mostly wrong about Grindcore, we wanna change that.”

People say you’re very fast, if we put a metronome on your music, what would be the XXX? What does it correspond ?

280 bpm average on that record probably. It matches what we’re used to do. We’ve always tried to be as fast as we can since Tonio, our drummer, joined the band. Grindcore has been extended, looks like our addition is outrageous speedness.

Your grindcore is more and more tinted with death metal, can you tell us why / how ?

You may be right. For this album we’d really had in mind to simplify riffs and songs in general while adding a hint of Death Metal. We’ve always listened to this genre, particulary our good old dodoss of a drummer. The actual scene and its amazing band (Necrot, Phrenelith, Undergang, Blood Incantation) may also have rubbed off on us.

Your last album is even more massive than the others, how did it go with the recording / mix / mastering ?

We tried to do the best we could with what we had. After writing all the song we recorded at our drummer’s, it was a short pre-production demo that happened to be really useful as a work base. We had never been that ready for a studio session thanks to this. We recorded at Disvlar Studio, ran by our friend Steph Lawansh in a nice collective house outside Besançon. We’ve always wanted to work with William Blackmon since we loved what he did with influential bands for us, like Gadget or The Arson Project. That’s why William was in charge of the Mix and Mastering, we’re very lucky having worked with him, communication was smooth and the result was really satisfying. It was our first remote mixing session ever, we were quite sceptical but this luckily turned out to be our best sound on record!

After years of DIY coproductions with many labels, why did you choose Deaf Death Husky & Throatruiner for this album ?

To be honnest, as an active touring band it’s easier to have the least label involved as possible, it’s a really down to earth stocking problem. We’ve decided to work with Deaf Death Husky records since one of us is runing the label and we thought that would be easier to provide records to our own network. Throatruiner Records might be a surprising label for Grindcore band and that’s why we asked them to release the record. We want to touch more people and in different scenes. People are mostly wrong about Grindcore, we wanna change that.

« Mephtism » being out soon, you who always tour a lot, do you have tour plans ? some ideas ?

The Mephtism campain will last longer than planned since we had been a bit optimistic schedulewise but still, we have some tours upcoming for the album promotion, we’re touring Japan in July, will follow several European tours, first one being a serious roadtrip with Warfuck in October, we’d really like to go back in the States but west coast this time, probably spring 2019. We’ll of course always be busy with one shot gigs around! Now we’re a metal band we really want to take the album promotion seriously and play it as much as we can.

How is the « scene » in your areas (shows, bands, labels…) ?

Here in Prénovel it’s rather quiet. But in Besançon there are much things going on, but rather rockish. We have also some DIY events, we are also involved in the few grindcore attacks in town under the name of Holy Grind. But to be honnest we feel closest to our grind mobster gangs in Lyon, Strasbourg or Les Vosges. The great east of France is rather active and full of cool bands.

Do you have side-projects ?

We still have some but less than before. Pibe plays in Buffet Froid (mincdegore), Disköse (raw punk), Lust For Death (Stenchcore) and Grossel (mincecore) together with Lopin who also plays in Contractions (indie rock). Tonio gets drunk, smokes weed and sporadicaly plays bass in another band.

Do you have band names that you like very much and people should know ?

There are a lot, but let’s try to focuss on actual bands : Scum Of The Earth, Ona Snop, Farsas, The Mens Toilet, Mortify, Crash Syndrom, Vomi Noir, Bad Rites, Hordür, Uhl, Satan, the whole Winnipeg Grindcore scene, Deterrence, Bongthrower. Cool bands.

Btw, who is « Rémy” from “Rémy sans patrie » ?

It’s you, it’s me, it’s everybody. You don’t chose your family, you don’t chose your country but it’s your choice. Wether you love it or you hate it. La France Pue.

Interview with LØVVE

Interview with LØVVE

“We all know, with our experience, that a band’s life always goes really fast so we acted quickly rather than letting things drag on.”

Quick introduction, where are you from ? what are your other bands ? How did you decide “we’re gonna make a new band, and it’s gonna be fast music” ?

Hello, we come from Tours, France.

Giny (singer) : I play guitar in Sisterhood Issue (punk hardcore), my oldest band. I play bass guitar in Sueurs Froides (punk rock), I also have another band, as a singer, called Alma (hardcore 90’s) and sometimes I go on tour with Nine Eleven as a live singer.

Simon (guitar) : I sing in Verbal Razors (Thrash Crossover) and I have another band in which I play guitar, Ed Warner (crust punk).

Richard (bass) : I play guitar in Nine Eleven.

Severin (drums) : I had a grind band, Crash Victim Cannibalism and Cromwell O (screamo) but these times I only play in Løvve.

At the beginning nothing was decided about the style of music, we have evolved in this direction due to Severin’s drumming, quite grind/fast, but anyway we were about to do fast music because none of us played this particular style before…

It’s a strong start for you, in one year you did two tours and one album, where was that ? how was that ?

It happened very fastly but it wasn’t premeditated even if we wanted to record quickly to be able to go on tour with an album. Moreover with four people almost jobless in the band, it’s easier to do it with no loss of time. Everything went well then, we booked week-ends in France and a tour last september in Europe (Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, France).

It was awesome, promoters, places, people who went to the shows… The welcoming was always perfect and moreover we sold a lot of cds : it’s great as a new band.

Did you planned to start as strong as this or did it came to you naturally ? What are your next plans ?

We didn’t planned it, but we all know, with our experience, that a band’s life always goes really fast so we acted quickly rather than letting things drag on. About what’s next, we’ll have 3 big week-ends in march, then a tour at the end of May with Nine Eleven (Spain, Portugal), then a twenty days tour in eastern Europe with Verbal Razors and Heavy Heart from Nantes.

Can you tell us more about the labels involved in the co-producion of your album ?

For the release of the album, it was Dirty Guys Rock from Tours. He’s a friend of us who set up this label, and he proposed us to release us.  Then there’s also Kalvaire Rcds who proposed us to participate to the co-production and finally Dingleberry Rcds in Germany.

Last but not least, how the “scene” going on in Tours ?

The scene in Tours goes very well. Since few years, there’s gigs around very often.

We figure it out that in France there’s a lot of microcosms in our different cities and that everyone is acting in his own way, and even has his own style of music sometimes. Everyone get involved, I mean we help each other to play in our towns and it participates to keep this scene alive. We realize that people doesn’t really know this town and that they think it’s a “dead town” but there’s more and more pubs with live music, so now it’s almost one gig each night ! There’s also more and more promoters, so we don’t have to complain.

Do you have band names that you like very much and people should know ?

Yep, there’s Pneu, Jarod, Real Deal, Le Kyma, La Grauss Boutique, Ultra Panda, Rodinal, Ubikande, Crackhouse… the list could be longer…
